Time plan

Time plan:
Research 4 digital artists and analysis:
12/09/11 – I will be studying Todd McFarlane, jack kirby, Takashi murakami
Ideas and concepts:
13/09/11 – I will be doing mainly online research to find image affects backgrounds and character images to put in and form my poster
Present ideas and concepts:
14/09/11 – My current idea’s are mainly on the same base subject but the images within the posters will be completely different although still linked some how
Experimentation: I will be going to try multiple things on Photoshop such as the ripple effect and trying out different effects that will make a image look like it’s a flag swaying in the wind.
14/09/11 – 20/09/11
Final output rendering:  The final image I choose to do was of a large character closer to the front of the poster “superman” then I collared it in from scratch to make sure it was my own including the shades of colour and background used which was of earth with an nuclear explosion
21/09/11 – 27/09/11
Print final output:  The final poster image I did was like a comic book style which most people can relate to, as well as child like colours which would catch a persons eye to bring them to look at the poster in depth

Artist Research

Takashi murakami - A artist inspired by the anime and manga genre of cartoons and artwork which lead to his creations such as miss KO2 and imaginary daughter, the signature creation Mr. dob became an highly popular online pet in the city of japan which was one his greatest creations.
All of his work was deemed amazing by how childish it is considering his age and how similar each of his creations is to one another although they bare no resembles to each other than leaping to a creation that is completely different but still showing a similar genre.
Miss KO2 : this sculpture was inspired by the manga sailor moon mainly by their style of clothing and the way they are drawn/animated and sculpted plus the style of clothing they wear although deemed to sexual for some places the metropolitan museum of art in Boston is one of the few that will openly display these types of images.
Mr DOB has a circular head with two ears; the letter D is inscribed on his left ear and the letter B on the right ear. The face is O-shaped, thus making his name legible.
In 1993 he created Mr DOB as an alter ego, a sort of self-portrait, Murakami drew on elements of a character called Doraemon – a cat-like robot from manga – Japanese comic books – and anime, or animation. Sonic the Hedgehog – a character from video games and anime – was another influence
Personally I found his work extremely interesting and inspiring mainly because I enjoyed looking at the vast amount of colours and strange images he had to offer on his website and his work in the art gallery’s although his work is deemed childish I believe that it’s more like he hasn’t let go of his child like imagination with is what we should all still have to this day.

Jack Kirby – This image shows five of the most powerful and popular heroes in marvel history as the group called avengers.
The position the artist placed each character in shows their signature pose as well as if they are ready to go to war, and to fight for what they believe in and what they feel is fight which to other could seem like the wrong sort of thing to do
The way they are standing and what there standing on also shows that the way they are is like a statue to forever remember them for what they have done and to give inspiration to any other heroes in the world super or other wise not to the everyday community
Each colour is particularly chosen by a certain hero or because of the properties of what they are wearing.
The position also shows that Thor seems like the leader of the group due to him standing out the most and standing (floating) behind the rest of the group but still looking more like a leader than the rest.
In all the colours that are chosen she to normally be red yellow and blue due to the fact that there all bright vibrant colours to signifies their status as hero as villains wear darker of shaded colour
The background shows a typical city which the heroes protect and to have it towering above them makes them seem more like normal people and no matter how small they seem they will always win.
My personal option of this image: I believe he was trying to show how united people can be to aid one and other in a single cause in any situation although in this particular picture it’s about coming together to fight evil and rid the world of it

Todd McFarlane – Has designed comics such as venom, spawn and Spiderman. Most of these covers appear as dark and evil although most of the comics are based on heroes with a small amount of villain comics.
The image I choose was Spiderman in the black suite and venom, the use of limited colour in this image was chosen to portray what I believed to be the darker side of any hero and how that evil can take on a life of its own.
The stance of spider-man signifies a troubled mind as if he’s got something to think about that can’t be shaken off which the brings venom faded into the sky which is a part of him.
The impact of this image shows me that this image or poster could show darker things to outcome in the current series, comics or movies.
The pose of the main character also shows that he is giving up and that he can’t bare the burden anymore, the rain signifies depression and grief which also brings your eyes directly onto the main character instead of what’s in the background which also makes you focus on the brooding stance he has and wonder why he’s like that.
The relasonship  between the two characters in this image seem to be rivals as well as enemy’s  which indicates a big battle may take place of something surprising like a partnership may from.
The pose of the second character seems to almost taunting the other character in an attempt to get a reaction but also keeping to looking dark and scary  the fact that its faded could also mean it could be what the main character in imagine and fear.
My personal option of this artist was that he showed an story behind this image through the stance of the character.

Howard Purcell: His most impressive work was his series of green lanturn comic book covers where he had the opportunity to experiment with a vast amount of styles and color structures while creating these master pieaces.
Most of his work was done with more darker colors due to the comic book paper which nearly always turned most colors dark, the colors normally used were the colors of green and veriouse shades which would show off the main characters essance.
each of his drawings and images are always drawn in a heroic pose aswell as actions poses symotenusly which seemed like a great chanalage for him to do in each and every comic.
Well, what worked pretty well for this guy is that although, most of his work was dark (colour wise) the rest of the image stands out because he has used brighter colours, this makes a good combination. The title also really stands out as it is black, with a yellow-green outline, however what also makes it stand out is the pattern/effect it has to make it stand out. He's used a lot of block colour
which isn't really seen alot. People tend to shade more for the shadow effect
However, the's used strong block colours, which make the drawing seem like it has more importance
Other than that: Lots of detail. Lots of contrasting colours. Different shades of different colour. It's very roughly drawn, there are no soft lines, everything is very defined, as if drawn for a reason

Wordle Experimentation

During this process we were experimenting with an online programme called wordle which let us type into words to do with a certain subject of are choosing in my case it was what we all need by repeating the word it would make the word on the final page bigger than the words that you only put in once.
After trying out different words I noticed the randomize tool under the image which changed the color of some words, the position and the background color to give off different views of the same wording , luckily in this case the word fair-trade was put into green which is ironic because of what the word means.

development of flag design

Using the custom shape tool i placed the black images onto the red purple and red background to begin the effect of making a flag like image.

This is the image i placed behind the color the objects seen throughout i choose this image about even though its a certain it gives the effect of wind blown lines all the way across it.

After placing the certain image behind my flag design i duplicated the layer repeatedly to to make it dark and to show it though more clearly.

I simply used the rectangle tool to measure out selected area's and added a selected color for each section which would give off the begiing look of my flag as in seen in some research i had done

This was the final image i created after i burned selected area's to show off the wind swept area throughout the flag although the first part of the flag (bulls eye) was made mistakenly so it did not process thought the editing it still gives off a small amount of the flag effect but not as much as the other which look like there printed on the background.

Superhero photoshop poster

Once the fine tuning done on the other images i added in a speech bubble with the brush tool with a color that will stand out on the background and easily catching the eye of  someone who saw it.

After cleaning up the background and mushroom cloud i colored in the superman with his basic colors as well as his eye color  after i decided to go over his symbol to make it stand out more as well as making the duller colors stand out more

Once i fine tuned the water and land i edited it a cartoon mushroom cloud then went over with the burn tool to make the orange darker and more angry like while still trying to keep it looking more like cartoon and blend it with the background.

The base image was drawn using the brush tool with the colour black to start off the space background then blended the blue colour so start off thee sea of the planet, then i went over the the sea with a green thick pencil to get the outline of the land then went over with the green pain
After finally cleaning up rough area's of the image i added the text in a cartoon type of font to go with the the theme of the image aswell as making it more local rather than something you just look at but can also read and get meaning from image

soldier photoshop shadows

adding in soldiers one by one seemed to be an easy way to place them in position and edit them if need be.
This background was one of the few that suited what i wanted to do to give a desired effect.
Adding in a small truck was done by simply copying and pasting an image into a certain location of which it would seem natural.

Moving the soldier to fit the right size and shape was harder once placing other objects in to match what was going on within the image.

After adding in what seemed to be the right amount of soldiers and other objects i started to move them into certain places and see what fit best.

Adding the Shadows was the hardest part of this process but by getting the effect done i decided to put the opacity down by a small margin to make it more realistic.

I was happy with the final image because although the images all came from separate places it seems as its a painting or a photograph

Photoshop Zombie

Adding the spots was going to be used like blistering the skin but when i tried multiple and similar things i decided to go with the flesh pealing off the skin.
The burn tool was very useful to show tiredness darkening certain aspects of the face to show dying skin and hair

This was a simple exsperiment to decide the if i should keep the beauty of the person or making them repulsive

continuing the decay of the mouth and skin i started to make a single tooth black which would start the zombie process

The tool i used to make the skin paler was the sponge tool to look like the skin was fading and cracking
